Community Champions

"When my kidneys failed, I had no choice but to leave home because there wasn’t space at the Lesser Slave Lake dialysis unit. Eventually, a spot opened up, and I moved back, but the travel was exhausting—early mornings, long drives, and draining treatments that left little time for life in between. I was young, sitting among older patients, but we all shared the same quiet fight to get through another day. A dialysis unit in Wabasca would change everything for patients like me—no more leaving home, no more exhausting travel, just the comfort of family, stronger support, and a better quality of life. More than just medical care, it would give patients something to live for, making each day about more than just survival."
